How Many Job Applicants Can't Pass A Drug Test?
Majority Of Businesses Report 5% Or Less
Nearly 1 in 5 Employers Say 15% of Applicants Can't Pass

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 3, 2015 - Express Employment Professionals released survey results today shedding light on the question of how many job applicants are unable to pass a drug test.
More than 400 businesses were surveyed, and 18 percent reported that "15 percent or more" of job applicants can't pass a drug test. Two percent said 11 to 15 percent can't pass a drug test. Another eight percent said "six percent to 10 percent" can't pass, while 71 percent said "five percent or less."
In other words, a slim majority says drugs are getting in the way of employment for very few applicants.
"For many jobs, being able to pass a drug test is required. Failing one can be a sure-fire way to be removed from consideration," said Bob Funk, CEO of Express and a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
"Time and time again at Express, we hear that companies with open positions aren't able to find qualified workers. As this survey indicates, finding applicants who can pass a drug test is one of the obstacles some of them-but thankfully not all of them-face.
"Not that there aren't enough reasons to avoid drugs, but people looking for work should keep in mind that a drug test is always a possibility," Funk said.
The survey of 404 businesses was conducted in December 2014 and January 2015. The respondents are current and former clients of Express Employment Professionals. Respondents were asked, "What percentage of job applicants cannot pass a drug test?"
