  • Domestic Violence

    • Turning Point
      • Turning Point is a domestic violence agency with a mission to confront violence against women and children in McHenry County, Illinois. Turning Point offers services to women, men and children. Located in Woodstock, IL. Visit turnpt.org or call (815) 338-8081.
    • Home of the Sparrow
      • Home of the Sparrow not only provides Transitional Shelter, but also Affordable Housing and Rapid Re-Housing combined with Supportive Services that address the core issues of homelessness. Home of the Sparrow serves single women, pregnant, women, and women with children. Located in McHenry. Visit hosparrow.org or call 815-271-5444


    Transportation

    • MCRide Dial-A-Ride
      • MCRide is a great way to get around McHenry County. Whether you need transportation for work, school, shopping, medical appointments or just to visit a friend, MCRide provides an affordable and flexible way to travel! 
        As a dial-a-ride program, MCRide service is "on-demand" and buses do not travel in a fixed route each day. Riders schedule their trips in advance and the vehicle provides curb-to-curb service from the rider's desired pick-up and drop-off destinations. MCRide is a shared-ride service, so vehicles may make stops for other passengers.

    • Pace Bus
      • Pace Suburban Bus Service of the RTA is the local public transportation agency for the Chicago area suburbs. For schedules and maps visit pacebus.com.

    • Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
      • DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides support for veterans of all generations and their families. The organization provides rides for veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with their claims. To find your local office, click here
    • FreeClinics.com 
      • This website is a great resource to find local free medical and dental clinics, as well as clinics that are sliding scale and income based. Visit FreeClinics.com to start your search for a free or low-cost medical clinic. 
    • Family Health Partnership Clinic
      • The Family Health Partnership Clinic will improve the health status of the community and reduce the negative impact of poor access to care by providing a broad spectrum of services to the under-served with compassion and respect.     • Goodwill
      • Goodwill locations offer assistance programs for everyone, including youth, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, criminal backgrounds and other specialized needs. Through their network of more than 3,200 stores, they provide clothing and household items at a low cost. You can find the location near you by visiting Goodwill.org.
    • Dress For Success
      • Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence through a network of support, providing professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.     • Savers
      • The Savers family of stores is a for-profit, global thrift retailer offering great quality, gently used clothing, accessories and household goods. Our business model of purchasing, reselling and recycling gives communities a smart way to shop and keeps more than 700 million pounds of used goods from landfills each year. Located at 230 W Virginia St, Suite 50 in Crystal Lake, IL.
    • Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Stores
      • 100% of the net proceeds from the seven stores are used for the women and children in Home of the Sparrow’s transitional housing program. With an exception to mattresses and box springs, everything sold in the Nest stores is donated. Located in Algonquin, Cary, McHenry and Woodstock.     • The Salvation Army
      • The Salvation Army website says it best: “As long as there’s The Salvation Army, there’s no such thing as no place to go.” Their offerings include shelters, group homes, and family service programs, as well as emergency shelters for those facing extreme conditions.     • Habitat for Humanity
      • Habitat for Humanity provides assistance for those looking for long-term solutions to housing issues. You can find your local Habitat for Humanity by visiting Habitat.org or Habitat.ca. 
    • Government Affordable Housing Programs
      • Both the United States and Canadian federal governments provide affordable housing programs. Visit USA.gov/Housing or click here for the Canadian housing program.

    • The Salvation Army
      • Whether it’s food pantries, meal programs, or community gardens, The Salvation Army is one of the top food resources in a community.     • Feeding America or Food Banks Canada

      • Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements.
