    This HR Basics training program is for those employees who are early in their HR career, have newly assigned HR responsibilities, or are looking for a refresher on core HR concepts. This training program will be delivered in person in 4-hour courses over 5 weeks. All training is delivered live and includes participant engagement and activities. 

     

    Course 1: FMLA, WORKERS COMP, ADA

    October 1 | Friday | 1:00pm - 5:00pm (EST)

    Goal of this training is to support newly assigned HR professionals on how to easily define, manage, administer, and track FMLA, Workers Compensation, and ADA.

    • Define and understand FMLA, ADA, & Workers comp requirements
    • Have the ability to handle notice, eligibility, documentation and tracking of leave(s)
    • Identify key requirements for ADA, who is qualified, what “reasonable accommodations” includes, how to establish modified duty, and what documentation requirements are
    • How to navigate Workers Comp, reporting, filing claims and documentation
    • Understand the interaction between FMLA and ADA including PDA

      Course 2: FUNDAMENTALS OF BENEFITS, POLICIES, & EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

      October 8 | Friday | 1:00pm - 5:00pm (EST)

      Goal of this training is to gain practical knowledge & skills in benefits administration, and policies that will support the goals of an organization.

      • How to structure benefits that are easy to understand for the end user.
      • How to create and use a benefit summary guide for competitive recruiting.
      • Creating a positive & welcoming benefit review for onboarding of new hires.
      • Know what policies are required through laws, act, regulations.
      • Gain practical understanding of standard employment policies.
      • Creating attendance policies that are easily managed in an HRIS System.
      • Creating processes and resources to support policies.
      • Learn the importance of training end users (Employees & Management).
      • Define employee engagement and ability to identify how to establish employee engagement strategically.
      • Learn how to identify possible employee engagement programs that benefit the employee but also the company goals (ROI).
      • Ability to design, implement, and launch sustainable employee engagement programs.
      • Ability to establish and report out metrics on employee engagement.
      • Using metrics data to define if employee engagement programs are successful.

      Course 3: RECRUITING WITH A PURPOSE

      October 15 | Friday | 1:00pm - 5:00pm (EST)

      Goal of this training is to understand talent acquisition, processes and best practices that will attract and support retention of qualified candidates.

      • How to create successful processes and procedures for recruiting that creates efficiencies in your organization.
      • Creating a recruiting system that provides the results needed.
      • Design of a successful and sustainable talent acquisition module.
      • Successful ability to market your company and benefits to be best in class and competitive in the hiring market.
      • Understand candidate expectations in the application, interview and hiring process.
      • Identifying roles and responsibilities for a well-oiled recruiting machine.
      • Onboarding: Best Practices.

      Course 4: PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

      October 22 | Friday | 1:00pm - 5:00pm (EST)

      Goal of this training is to better understand the support service function and required skills of HR as it relates to performance management.

      • Performance management Processes identified.
      • Creating a performance management business plan and aligning with leadership.
      • Creating an effective evaluation/review process (plan, do, check, act).
      • Managing the process of evaluations/reviews.
      • Establishing goals and training for performance management.
      • The importance of training Leadership on performance management.
      • Ability to support leaders in development and performance improvement plans.

      Course 5: EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK POLICY STRUCTURE

      October 29 | Friday | 1:00pm - 5:00pm (EST)

      Goal of this training is to learn basic understanding of employment policies, handbook structure and formatting.

      • Know what is required through Laws, Acts, requirements/Federal/State/Local.
      • How to establish effective company policies (Examples: PTO, discipline, attendance etc.).
      • Employee Handbook is for employees: create a format that is easy for the end user to understand.
      • How to market policies and handbook expectations effectively.
      • Ability to understand compliance structure, resources, and sustainability.
      • Create a yearly review checklist that keeps your handbook up to date, employees in the know and reducing risk of compliance violations.

      Nathan Leaman - Director of Strategic HR
      Nathan Leaman

      Director of HR Training & Consulting - Express Employment Professionals

      Nathan Leaman is a passionate professional with extensive experience in building systems and tools that support organizational and leadership effectiveness.  Nathan brings over 20 years of leadership and HR experience from both business and non-profit organizations.  

      Nathan has a Bachelor's degree from the Moody Bible Institute, a Master's degree from Liberty University and received his coaching certification from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Nathan spent seven years in full-time church ministry before working for 13 years at the Kohler Co.  At Kohler, Nathan moved through various HR roles eventually taking the position of Director- Leadership Development.  Nathan also held various executive HR roles for the Grande Cheese Company in Fond du Lac, WI where he was responsible for Organizational Development, Compensation, Benefits Management and HRIS.

      Nathan has extensive experience with assessment tools and is certified in multiple personality and 360 degree feedback assessments.  His straightforward style, willingness to tackle difficult issues, genuine interest in seeing others grow and ability to coach at all levels makes Nathan a go-to resource for strategic HR support and executive development.
