As a Technical Sales Professional, the successful candidate will work with a great group of people who really care about the job they do. This position will primarily focus on the technical aspect of the sale of industrial forgings such as: discs, rolled rings, crane wheels, sheave wheels, industrial wheels, gear blanks, and mining components. This position will report directly to the Engineering and Sales Manager and assist in that capacity. Specification Review, Estimation, Quotation, and Order Review for accuracy are key components of this position. The successful candidate will also be expected to be able to communicate effectively with Engineering, Inside Sales, and the key Production individuals to ensure that customer requirements are met, order routing is correct, and on-time delivery is achieved. Additionally, he/she must also be able to take customer requirements and translate them into shop floor procedures to close the loop between Sales, Engineering, and Production.
Job Duties:
- Understanding of the customer's business and how it translates to the products and required processes at our facility.
- Ability to travel to customer locations, when applicable, to understand customer processes.
- Build effective strategic partnerships with key customers to dynamically grow both businesses.
- Identify new opportunities and will work with the Engineering and Sales Manager to develop possible solutions to capture those possible opportunities through pricing or R&D.
- Maintain effective customer relationships to understand the customer's requirements now and in the future.
- Promote products to new customers at all levels, especially the senior executive level.
- Work with our extensive Representative network to process current opportunities in a fast, decisive manner.
- Develop prospects through individual efforts or in combination with Representatives for new accounts.
- Follow key account orders through production to ensure that on-time delivery of key accounts is maintained.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards/specifications such as AISI, ASTM, ASM, AGMA, and MIL.
- Knowledge of metallurgical testing requirements for industrial forgings and translation to obtaining outside laboratory quotations for meeting those requirements.
- 5-7yrs experience in the steel industry via melting, closed die forging, or ring rolling, of steel components.
- Good understanding of various heat treatment conditions and the equipment that produces those conditions.
- Bachelor's or greater in Material Science is desirable with a focus on Metallurgy or an equivalent degree will be considered.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Microsoft products such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, a requirement. Ability to learn online bidding software systems is also a requirement.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of ASTM, ASM, and AGMA documents and how they are applied to the shop floor
- 2-3 years: Steel procurement or sales
- 5-7 years: steel forging and heat treating, gear manufacturing, or equipment fabrication using steel components
