    Inside Sales Representative/Assistant Product Manager

    Inside Sales Representative/Assistant Product Manager – Competitive Salary Commensurate with Experience

    General Function:  

    • The Inside Sales Representative/Assistant Product Manager will be responsible for maintaining, cultivating and servicing new and existing accounts primarily utilizing telephone and electronic communication with some travel.  Responsibility for customer service, quoting, pricing, process design and profitability.

    Skills and Prerequisites:  

    • B.S. degree in Engineering or Business and/or at least five (5) years of relevant experience. A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on quoting, inside sales and customer service responsibilities.  Experience with cold finished steel bar or other steel products, or previous production experience with respect to these products is a positive.  Ability to read customer blueprints and specifications for the purpose of developing quotations.  Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint knowledge required.
    • Individuals must possess proven leadership skills, a high degree of organization, problem solving, and effective communication skill to interact with employees, customers and other professionals.

    Reporting Requirements: 

    • This will report directly to the Director, Sales and Marketing.

    Description of Responsibilities:

    • Maintain, cultivate, and expand business with new and existing accounts.
    • Respond to customer requests regarding delivery, pricing, and quality in a professional manner.
    • Service customers by managing orders through the entire sales cycle including: order fulfillment, develop inquiries, propose pricing, arrange transportation, meet delivery schedules, and resolve claims.
    • Effectively manage potential issues with superior service and turn this responsiveness into a competitive advantage.
    • Be the voice of the customer and coordinate, communicate and resolve all relevant customer requests in the organization in order to exceed customers' expectations.
    • Monitor customer open orders to ensure on-time delivery performance.
    • Develop, with the Tool and Die Manager and Product Manager, estimated processing costs, tooling costs, and raw material requirements for all shape inquiries.
    • Obtain, from Production and Material Control, all raw material prices and estimated deliveries on inquiries for the purpose of developing prices and deliveries for quotations.
    • Develop and send quotations to customers and appropriate internal personnel. Communicate with customers' technical staff concerning dimensional, mechanical and physical properties of the product. 
    • After the purchase order is received, review all details of the purchase order, specifications, prints and quotation to write the processing instructions.
    • Any other duties as assigned.

    As a Technical Sales Professional, the successful candidate will work with a great group of people who really care about the job they do.  This position will primarily focus on the technical aspect of the sale of industrial forgings such as:  discs, rolled rings, crane wheels, sheave wheels, industrial wheels, gear blanks, and mining components. This position will report directly to the Engineering and Sales Manager and assist in that capacity.  Specification Review, Estimation, Quotation, and Order Review for accuracy are key components of this position. The successful candidate will also be expected to be able to communicate effectively with Engineering, Inside Sales, and the key Production individuals to ensure that customer requirements are met, order routing is correct, and on-time delivery is achieved.  Additionally, he/she must also be able to take customer requirements and translate them into shop floor procedures to close the loop between Sales, Engineering, and Production.

    Job Duties:

    • Understanding of the customer's business and how it translates to the products and required processes at our facility.
    • Ability to travel to customer locations, when applicable, to understand customer processes.
    •  Build effective strategic partnerships with key customers to dynamically grow both businesses.
    • Identify new opportunities and will work with the Engineering and Sales Manager to develop possible solutions to capture those possible opportunities through pricing or R&D.
    • Maintain effective customer relationships to understand the customer's requirements now and in the future.
    • Promote products to new customers at all levels, especially the senior executive level.
    • Work with our extensive Representative network to process current opportunities in a fast, decisive manner.
    • Develop prospects through individual efforts or in combination with Representatives for new accounts.
    • Follow key account orders through production to ensure that on-time delivery of key accounts is maintained.

    The successful candidate will possess the following:

    • In-depth knowledge of industry standards/specifications such as AISI, ASTM, ASM, AGMA, and MIL.
    • Knowledge of metallurgical testing requirements for industrial forgings and translation to obtaining outside laboratory quotations for meeting those requirements.
    • 5-7yrs experience in the steel industry via melting, closed die forging, or ring rolling, of steel components. 
    • Good understanding of various heat treatment conditions and the equipment that produces those conditions.
    • Bachelor's or greater in Material Science is desirable with a focus on Metallurgy or an equivalent degree will be considered.
    • Knowledge of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft products such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, a requirement.  Ability to learn online bidding software systems is also a requirement.

    Qualifications 

    • Extensive knowledge of ASTM, ASM, and AGMA documents and how they are applied to the shop floor
    • 2-3 years: Steel procurement or sales
    • 5-7 years: steel forging and heat treating, gear manufacturing, or equipment fabrication using steel components

    This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the sales process with the following expectations.

    • Responsible for building strong relationship with existing and prospective customers.
    • Responds to all inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner to establish  as a preferred solutions provider.
    • Maintain itineraries, trip reports, expense reports and other correspondence required by management.
    • Meet and exceed agreed upon sales targets for profitable sales volume, market share, and key performance indicators.
    • Attends and participates in business/trade events that impact business unit as well as strategic sales meetings.
    • Expected travel: 50%

    Qualifications:

    • Possesses technical experience in a manufacturing environment with knowledge of metal fabrication. Knowledge of Electric Arc Furnaces and Steel processes preferred. Knowledge of metal fabrication or melt shop equipment a plus.
    • Possesses a valid driver's license.
    • Exhibits good oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications using AutoCAD.
    • Working knowledge of Office 365 products.

    Compensation:

    • Base pay plus performance incentive based on experience.
