Express Partners with Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) to aid Local Seniors
CENTERLINE, MI, October 12, 2017 - Express Employment Professionals recently partnered with the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) program to hold the charity’s 15th Annual Golf Outing on September 22nd, 2017. As the premier Albatross Sponsor for the event, Express helped the organization raise important funding and build community awareness for the growing needs of many local seniors.
In the Detroit Metropolitan area thousands of older adults live at or near the poverty level, and many do not have family available to assist them with basic daily needs. Simple yet essential help from an IVC volunteer can allow a struggling elderly neighbor to remain safe and independent in their own home for as long as possible, often significantly delaying or eliminating the need for them to move into a long-term care facility.
Trained, screened and caring volunteers provide a variety of support for hundreds of older and disabled neighbors each year. Services include:
- Transportation to medical appointments and essential errands
- Help with grocery shopping
- Minor home repairs
- Indoor and Outdoor chores and yardwork
- Assistance with routine housekeeping & meal preparation
- Friendly visits for those who are isolated
- Respite breaks for family caregivers
- And more!
This year’s golf outing netted over $14,000 in funding which will allow many more of our neighbors to remain safe and independent in their own homes. IVC can support a senior at home for an average of less than $500 per year, with a single round trip ride costing less than $8 to provide. This recent event, along with the sponsorship from Express Employment Professionals, will provide over 1,750 rides to important medical appointments and more!
With IVC, the community saves a great deal of money, volunteers find life-enriching and rewarding opportunities to serve a neighbor in need, and older adults get to stay in their own homes that they love for as long as possible.
