SUMMARY 

The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership and oversight, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, integrated behavioral health services. This role encompasses direct patient care, supervision of medical staff, and active participation in program development to meet Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Adheres to agency, state, and federal standards.  Ensures compliance with policy and procedures, CARF, and ODMHSAS standards, confidentiality regulations, and funding source requirements to safeguard quality, accountability, and trust in services provided. 

Supports and promotes a recovery-focuses and trauma informed environment.  Creates a welcoming, supportive atmosphere that recognizes the lived experiences of individuals and reduces barriers to care. 

Provides director clinical care – Conducts psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, medication management, and crisis intervention to ensure timely, effective treatment for individuals with complex behavioral health needs.

Supervises and mentors medical staff including physicians, nurse practitioners, RNs, and LPNs by guiding clinical practice and encouraging professional growth to build a skilled, confident, and collaborative team. 

Partners with clinicians, case managers, and support staff to develop individualized treatment plans that integrate behavioral health and primary care, ensuring whole-person wellness and continuity of care. 

Facilitates integration of behavioral health and primary care services by strengthening communication and coordination among providers, reducing fragmentation and improving client outcomes.

Develops and refines clinical policies, procedures, and protocols consistent with CARF, ODMHSAS, and other regulatory standards, ensuring compliance and promoting best practices in psychiatric care.

Provides consultation and training to staff on psychiatric conditions, trauma-informed practices, and evidence-based interventions, supporting professional development and stronger client care.

Oversees the medication budget to ensure responsible stewardship of resources while maintaining client safety and access to needed treatment 

Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, using data to inform decisions and continually enhance service delivery.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all medical services in accordance with agency policy and applicable law, ensuring compliance and continuity of care.

Engages in community outreach and education efforts that raise awareness, reduce stigma, and build trust between the organization and the community.

Establishes and maintains professional, collaborative relationships with peers, supervisors, and staff to strengthen team culture and reflect the values of compassion, accountability, resilience, passion, and collaboration.

 

Provide on-call telehealth support to Urgent Recovery Center (URC) leadership and nursing staff, assisting with client symptom management, medication prescribing, and clinical decision-making. During assigned rotations, remain available 24/7 to answer calls, provide guidance to nursing staff.  Collaborates with physicians as needed to review and refine URC protocols.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

·         Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.

·         Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.

·         Minimum of five years of clinical experience in psychiatry, with at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role.

·         Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Oklahoma.

·         DEA certification for prescribing controlled substances.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

·         Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Oklahoma.

·         DEA certification for prescribing controlled substances.

·         Completion of Therapeutic Options or approved safety training, with annual updates.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to families, clients, and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
