Survey Reveals Which Post-Secondary Education Majors
Get You a Job - And Which Don't

Engineering and Business Top the List

Toronto, Oct. 8, 2014 - Express Employment Professionals, the largest franchised staffing company in North America, today released survey findings that reveal which post-secondary education majors make someone the most employable.

The survey revealed that engineering and engineering technologies top the list, with 22 per cent of respondents saying it's the best major for securing employment. Business major is second on the list.

The findings come from the 2014 edition of the "Canada Employed" survey of 22 Express franchises across Canada. Respondents were asked to name "What post-secondary education major makes someone the most employable." Full results are below.

"Engineering is still a good bet for a major, according to our survey," said Bob Funk, CEO of Express and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. "Once again, our findings tell us that if you earn a degree that's associated with a particular skill set, you will do better in the job market.

"I advise people deciding what to study to consider both what they're passionate about and what the market demands. If those intersect, they're in good shape. The most important thing is to be informed about and aware of which degree can give you a competitive advantage, both in the short term and the long term."
