Wage Report: Where’s the Money?

Express Employment Professionals Report Reveals Average
Wages for Range of Popular Jobs

In September, Accounting Field Paid Best

OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 13, 2013 — Express Employment Professionals, the nation’s largest privately held staffing firm, today released a report on the average hourly wages for jobs in September 2013. The Accounting field topped the list at $23.05 per hour with positions including accountants, auditors and accounts payable/receivable. Industrial jobs, like welders and machinists, earned $10.68 per hour, still above the federal minimum wage rate of $7.25 per hour.

The data comes from Express franchises across the nation and reflects the average wages of jobs filled by workers taking advantage of Express placement services.

“At Express, we pride ourselves on offering job seekers a range of positions in a range of fields,” said Bob Funk, CEO of Express Employment Professionals, and a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. “But let’s be honest, not all jobs are created equal when it comes to pay. A savvy job seeker will take advantage of this information and over time, work to land the higher-paying positions.

“Being informed about what jobs you pursue and what skills you acquire along the way can pay off–literally,” Funk said. “As more workers stay flexible and open to learning new skills and gaining knowledge, they will have a higher chance of long-term success and the achievement of their career goals.”

Average hourly wages for September were as follows:

1.  Accounting (Accountant, Auditor, Accounts Receivable/Payable): $23.05
2.  Human Resources: $21.44
3.  Information Technology: $21.42
4.  Medical Professionals (Registered Nurse, Dental Hygienist, Pharmacy Technician): $18.76
5.  Engineering and Manufacturing: $17.68
6.  Marketing and Advertising (Copywriters and Graphic Designers): $16.65
7.  Sales: $15.35
8.  Administrative (Office Manager, Admin. Assistants): $11.95
9.  Medical Office (Billing Coders, Medical Records Clerks, Insurance Claim Processors): $11.09
10.  Industrial (Welders, Machinists): $10.68

Many of these jobs are often filled by individuals who have gained some additional education or training to qualify for the roles. On average, individuals employed through Express work 37 hours per week and the average assignment lasts three to four months. The data is released as part of the America Employed series, reports presenting original data from more than 260 Express franchise offices in 46 states across the U.S. For more information, visit ExpressPros.com/AmericaEmployed.
