Job Summary

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Superintendent supervises millwrights, laborers, and subcontractors, managing daily work plans, enforcing safety protocols, and resolving on-site issues. This role requires hands-on leadership, technical expertise, and effective communication to maintain project momentum and align with the Project Manager’s objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

On-Site Supervision and Coordination:

· Plan and direct daily construction activities, ensuring alignment with the Project Manager’s schedule, scope, and objectives.

· Supervise millwrights, laborers, and subcontractors, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient execution of work plans.

· Coordinate material deliveries, equipment usage, and subcontractor schedules to maintain continuous workflow.

· Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to blueprints, specifications, and industry standards.

Safety Management:

· Enforce OSHA regulations, safety policies, and industry best practices, ensuring all personnel comply with safety requirements (e.g., PPE usage).

· Lead daily safety briefings (toolbox talks) and weekly safety audits to identify and mitigate hazards.

· Report incidents or near-misses to the Project Manager and collaborate on corrective actions to maintain a zero-incident work environment.

Project Execution and Problem-Solving:

· Interpret blueprints, schematics, and project plans to guide accurate on-site work, particularly for agricultural systems like grain handling or processing equipment, numerous other equipment installations.

· Proactively address on-site challenges (e.g., weather delays, material shortages, or equipment failures) and propose solutions to the Project Manager.

· Ensure all work meets local building codes, client specifications, and standards such as the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) or American Concrete Institute (ACI).

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial or agricultural construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role (e.g., foreman or superintendent).

· Proven experience supervising millwrights, laborers, and subcontractors on agricultural projects (e.g., grain silos, processing plants, or steel structures).

· Familiarity with fabrication, installation, and maintenance of agricultural equipment and systems.

Certifications:

· OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required within 120 days of hire).

· Preferred: First Aid/CPR, Forklift Operator, Rigging and Signaling, or Welding certifications.

· TWIC Card issuance ( within 120 days of hire)

· ISN ID Card Issuance (within 14 days of hire)

Skills and Abilities:

· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage diverse crews and resolve conflicts effectively.

· Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.

· Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

· Working knowledge of construction equipment (e.g., forklifts, telehandlers, manlifts, excavators) and tools used in agricultural construction.

· Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, or Microsoft Project) is a plus.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with the Project Manager, subcontractors, and clients.

· Ability to calculate basic measurements and apply math skills for layout, material estimates, and troubleshooting.

· Licenses: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) if required for equipment operation.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

· Primarily field-based, working on construction sites with exposure to outdoor conditions, including noise, dust, and inclement weather.

· May require travel to project sites outside of Arkansas, with occasional overnight stays.

· Typical hours are Monday through Friday, with frequent overtime and weekend work during peak project phases.

Physical Demands

· Ability to stand, walk, and climb on uneven terrain for extended periods.

· Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting, and turning.

· Comfort working at heights, in confined spaces, or in environments with dust, noise, and temperature extremes.

· Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
