Summary:

Leads the plant maintenance team, making sure all machinery and equipment are repaired, maintained, and running efficiently. Oversees preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment installation, and ensures all systems are safe and reliable. Manages maintenance budgets and looks for ways to improve equipment performance and reliability.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Set the direction for the maintenance department with clear systems, tools, and communication.

  • Build and manage the annual maintenance and repair (M&R) budgets.

  • Lead capital projects—plan, justify costs, and manage implementation.

  • Supervise contractors and vendors to make sure equipment installation is safe and on schedule.

  • Ensure all systems meet regulatory compliance and required inspections (local, state, federal).

Recruitment & Staff Development:

  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate maintenance staff.

  • Set team goals and succession plans.

  • Provide technical training to improve equipment troubleshooting and reduce downtime.

Efficiency & Reliability:

  • Schedule maintenance activities based on production needs.

  • Develop and implement predictive and preventive maintenance plans.

  • Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to plan work, track repairs, and manage maintenance schedules.

  • Analyze performance data to improve equipment uptime and reduce maintenance costs.

  • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures and put action plans in place.

  • Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies to control costs and avoid downtime.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Promote a culture of safety and food quality in all maintenance activities.

  • Make sure all equipment maintenance supports food safety standards.

  • Ensure team follows safety rules, uses proper PPE, and reports hazards.

  • Maintain clean, professional building and grounds in line with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

  • Flexibility to adjust work hours based on production needs.


Supervisory Role:

  • This role directly supervises maintenance staff.

  • Acts as a backup to the Maintenance Supervisor when needed.


Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong team leadership and coaching ability.

  • Budget planning and project management skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Effective communicator with good presentation and negotiation skills.

  • Knowledge of:

    • Electrical and mechanical systems

    • CMMS and PLCs

    • HVAC, refrigeration, and wastewater systems

    • Automated production equipment

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, network systems, etc.).


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 7+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing (food industry preferred).

  • 5+ years of management experience.

  • Experience in equipment procurement, installation, and project management.

  • Knowledge of safety management and environmental regulations.

  • Proven experience managing department budgets.


Work Schedule & Environment:

  • Full-time, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week.

  • Must be available for weekends, evenings, and holidays based on production or downtime needs.

  • Work is done in a plant environment with moderate to loud noise levels.

  • Uses standard office and shop equipment.

  • Must be reliable and punctual; time off follows company policies.


Physical Demands:

  • Regularly use hands and arms; talk, hear, and see clearly.

  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift items up to 10 lbs.

  • Use a computer and specialized equipment daily.

  • Must handle multiple tasks and interact with staff and vendors.
