Position Summary:
The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting day-to-day human resource operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws, and providing exceptional service to employees across the full employee lifecycle. This role is responsible for a broad range of HR functions including payroll, benefits administration, recruiting support, employee relations, onboarding/offboarding, and HR systems management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Process and audit biweekly multistate payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
· Administer employee benefits including enrollments, changes, terminations, and annual open enrollment
· Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and coordinate corrections or reimbursements as needed
· Support employee onboarding and offboarding, including new hire paperwork, system setup, and exit interviews
· Maintain HRIS records and personnel files in accordance with company policy and legal requirements
· Conduct I-9 verification and ensure timely E-Verify processing and compliance
· Assist in handling employee relations issues by gathering facts, documenting interactions, and escalating appropriately
· Partner with managers to ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including tracking of meal and rest periods
· Coordinate leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, Workers’ Comp) and ensure timely communication and documentation
· Support internal investigations and performance management documentation
· Contribute to policy development, updates, and training initiatives
· Respond to employment verifications, audits, and compliance requests
· Assist with recruiting activities including job postings, applicant tracking, interview scheduling, and offer letters
· Manage workers’ compensation claims in coordination with third-party administrators
· Identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and compliance
· Work in the Finance department one day per week processing Accounts Payable, verifying invoices, and preparing checks for signature and distribution.
Qualifications:
· 3+ years of progressive HR experience; generalist or specialist background
· Strong knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices
· Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration
· Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, etc.)
· High attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in a manufacturing, agricultural, or production-based environment
· Associates degree or equivalent
