Metallurgical Lab Technician
We are looking for a metallurgical Lab Technician to Conduct laboratory tests and/or prepare samples to assist production team in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of materials for quality control and research and development.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
· Under limited supervision, performs test/inspection per specifications and/or Nadcap requirements for hardware acceptance and/or process acceptance
- Conduct sample preparation such as cutting, mounting, polishing, grinding, etching, hardness measurement, microscopic evaluation to assist production team in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of various materials.
- Compile, organize, file, and relay results of tests and analyses.
- Conduct programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials and products.
- Maintain and clean laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Order and inventory materials in order to maintain supplies.
- Document testing results and prepare testing reports.
- Provide support and assistance to Engineers on general testing processes.
· Provides technical support to manufacturing
· Releases all test results upon completion
· Coordinates with internal/external sources for preventative maintenance schedules on all lab equipment
· Control and order supplies and/or consumables as required
· Complies with all environmental safe practices and regulations
· Has knowledge of MSDS, all labeling and storage requirements for chemicals
· Performs other laboratory duties as assigned or requested
Required Skills:
· Able to read/interpret Blueprint/specification and understand the requirements
· Basic knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy
· Basic knowledge of metallurgical laboratory practice
· Basic knowledge of special processes such as Heat Treat and surface process in manufacturing environment
· Able to perform metallurgical examinations per specification and procedure
· Familiar with equipment in metallurgical laboratory
· Sufficient computer skills working with Microsoft files and programs
· Outstanding attention to detail
· Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and willingness to perform extra work and take on new projects; and,
· Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced and changing environment; with a strong sense of teamwork
Required Experience:
· Knowledge of metallurgical testing procedures
· Knowledge of metallurgical sample [preparations and examinations
Level of Education:
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
