Job Full Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to perform advanced diagnostic testing and imaging procedures that support the diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions. This role is critical to the clinical workflow, providing accurate and timely data to ophthalmologists for patient care decisions. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, excellent patient interaction skills, and a commitment to precision.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests, including:
    • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
    • Fundus photography
    • Fluorescein angiography (FA)
    • Visual field testing (Humphrey, Goldmann)
    • Corneal topography and tomography
    • A-scan and B-scan ultrasonography
    • IOL Master or Lenstar biometry
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and operation of diagnostic equipment
  • Prepare patients for testing and explain procedures clearly and compassionately
  • Accurately document test results and upload images to Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists and technicians to ensure efficient patient flow
  • Monitor image quality and retake tests as needed to ensure diagnostic accuracy
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and infection control protocols
  • Assist with training new staff on diagnostic equipment and procedures

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical training preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in ophthalmic diagnostics or clinical imaging
  • Proficiency with ophthalmic imaging systems and software
  • Strong understanding of ocular anatomy, pathology, and diagnostic principles
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and medical documentation
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Technician (COT), or Medical Technologist (COMT)
  • Experience in subspecialties such as retina, glaucoma, or cornea
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) is a plus
  • CPR certification and knowledge of emergency protocols
