Job Full Description

We are seeking skilled and patient-focused Ophthalmic / Diagnostic Technicians to join our clinical team. The Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in supporting ophthalmologists performing diagnostic tests, assisting with procedures, and preparing patients for exams. This position requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Take and record the patient's medical and ocular history
  • Measure visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and perform refractions
  • Conduct diagnostic tests such as OCT, visual field testing, fundus photography, and corneal topography
  • Administer eye drops and prepare patients for procedures
  • Assist ophthalmologists during exams and minor procedures
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and equipment
  • Educate patients on medications, post-operative care, and follow-up instructions
  • Document findings and procedures accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use
  • Support front office and administrative tasks as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting
  • Proficiency in ophthalmic testing and equipment
  • Strong understanding of ocular anatomy, diseases, and treatments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and medical documentation
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)
  • Experience in subspecialties such as retina, glaucoma, or pediatrics
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) is a plus
  • CPR certification and knowledge of emergency protocols
