Job Full Description
We are seeking skilled and patient-focused Ophthalmic / Diagnostic Technicians to join our clinical team. The Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in supporting ophthalmologists performing diagnostic tests, assisting with procedures, and preparing patients for exams. This position requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Take and record the patient's medical and ocular history
- Measure visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and perform refractions
- Conduct diagnostic tests such as OCT, visual field testing, fundus photography, and corneal topography
- Administer eye drops and prepare patients for procedures
- Assist ophthalmologists during exams and minor procedures
- Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Educate patients on medications, post-operative care, and follow-up instructions
- Document findings and procedures accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use
- Support front office and administrative tasks as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program preferred
- 1+ years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting
- Proficiency in ophthalmic testing and equipment
- Strong understanding of ocular anatomy, diseases, and treatments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with EHR systems and medical documentation
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)
- Experience in subspecialties such as retina, glaucoma, or pediatrics
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) is a plus
- CPR certification and knowledge of emergency protocols
