Position Summary:
The Slitter Operator is responsible for the safe and accurate setup, operation, and maintenance of the slitting machine to ensure rolls are cut to specified widths. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality, equipment efficiency, and a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation and Setup:
· Set up and calibrate slitting machines according to work orders and specifications.
· Safely mount, adjust, and secure rolls using hoists and hand tools.
· Assemble cores, collars, plates, and shafts as needed for each run.
· Monitor equipment during operation, ensuring proper speed, alignment, and cut accuracy.
Production Quality:
· Inspect rolls throughout the run and perform final quality checks.
· Make real-time adjustments to correct any quality issues or misalignments.
· Complete all documentation accurately, including production logs, inventory transactions, labels, and time sheets.
Maintenance and Safety:
· Conduct routine inspections of machinery and work area to ensure compliance with safety standards.
· Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or process issues to minimize downtime.
· Follow all safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies.
Efficiency and Teamwork:
· Work collaboratively with team members to perform changeovers and set-ups efficiently.
· Maximize equipment uptime and material yield while minimizing waste.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving efforts.
Job Requirements:
Experience and Education:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Minimum of [X] years manufacturing experience; previous slitter machine operation is required.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
· Basic computer skills for data entry and label printing.
· Advanced math skills, including the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
· Ability to read, write, and follow written/verbal instructions in English.
· Fork truck certification required.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.
· Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and remain on feet for long periods.
· Comfortable working in non-climate-controlled environments (heat/cold).
· Willing to work overtime, weekends, and various shifts as needed.
Work Environment: This position is performed in a manufacturing plant. Noise levels may be high, and temperature fluctuates depending on season and machine operation.
