Grinder Operator/Steel Plate Cleaner – East Feliciana Parish
Evaluation Hire
$13/hr
Monday – Thursday 6 am – 4:30 pm (subject to change)
Express Employment Professionals, a full-service staffing agency, is hiring a Grinder Operator / Steel Plate Cleaner for a fabrication shop in East Feliciana Parish.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal workpieces as they come off the plate burners.
- Observe machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems, report any problems to the supervisor, and obtain new equipment if necessary.
- Activate machine start-up switches to grind, lap, hone and debar workpieces, according to specifications.
- Lift and position workpieces, manually or with hoists, and secure them in hoppers or on machine tables, faceplates, or chucks, using clamps.
- Safely and effectively operate forklifts, and overhead cranes to move Plates around the shop.
Experience
- Experience with Operating forklifts, and overhead cranes.
- Using Grinders in a fabrication setting to prep, and clean metal plates.
- Experience as a welder helper.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a lot of manual labor.
Physical Demands:
- Varying standing and sitting for extended periods of time throughout the day.
- Occasional lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Exposure to varying environments including loud, hot, and smoke-filled areas
