Small Engine Mechanic – Full-Time | Helena, MT

About the Role:
As a Small Engine Mechanic, you’ll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of landscaping equipment and small engines. This includes both mechanical and electrical systems. You’ll work with everything from ignition systems and wiring harnesses to battery-powered components and control modules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair small engines, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
- Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of electrical components, including:
- Ignition systems
- Battery charging systems
- Wiring harnesses and connectors
- Switches, relays, and fuses
- Lighting and control panels
- Electric start systems
- Use diagnostic tools to test voltage, continuity, and resistance.
- Fabricate or modify parts as needed to ensure proper equipment function.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed.
- Ensure all work is completed in a timely and professional manner.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in small engine repair.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with Kohler and Walker engines is a plus.
- Basic fabrication skills (welding, cutting, etc.).
- Electrical certification for vehicles or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
