Diesel Mechanic – Tow & Recovery Fleet
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Location: In-shop
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a fleet of service trucks and wreckers, including Kenworth T300s, as well as light-, medium-, and heavy-duty tow and recovery vehicles. This role is critical to keeping equipment safe, reliable, and road-ready in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and wreckers
- Work on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Maintain and repair tow and recovery equipment (winches, booms, PTOs, hydraulics)
- Perform inspections and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
- Complete maintenance records accurately and timely
- Ensure all equipment meets safety and operational standards
- Communicate repair needs, timelines, and recommendations clearly
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic (tow, recovery, or heavy equipment preferred)
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles
- Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems
- Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- ASE certification is a plus, but not required
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working on, under, and around heavy vehicles
- Standing, bending, kneeling, and using hand and power tools for extended periods
- Ability to work in a shop environment with noise, grease, and varying temperatures
