Sales Representative – Wood Industry (Base + Commission)
Position Summary
We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable Sales Representative to develop and grow business within the retail wood & lumber market. This role focuses on building strong customer relationships, generating new sales opportunities, and managing accounts for a range of lumber and wood-based materials. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working in both inside and outside sales environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, builders, retailers, and other industry clients
- Identify new business opportunities and actively prospect for new accounts
- Manage the full sales cycle, including quoting, negotiating, and closing sales
- Provide product knowledge and recommendations based on customer needs
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, pipeline, and customer interactions
- Coordinate with operations and logistics teams to ensure timely product delivery
- Monitor market trends, pricing, and competitor activity
- Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets
- Knowledge of marketing, updating website for products, social media a plus
Qualifications
- Previous sales experience required; experience in lumber, building materials, or wood products preferred
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to understand and explain product specifications and applications
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Basic computer skills (CRM systems, email, spreadsheets)
- Valid driver’s license
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary plus commission structure
- Performance-based earning potential (uncapped commission)
