Job Full Description

The Packaging Buyer is a key player in executing and optimizing the sourcing strategy for Packaging across multiple internal brands and contract manufacturing partners. This role will support the end-to-end management of procurement activities, including the identification, negotiation, and acquisition of packaging materials to ensure uninterrupted production. The position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including planners and production managers, to align purchasing decisions with production schedules and operational needs. In addition to managing tactical purchasing, the Packaging Buyer will drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, vendor relationships, and cost management, ensuring the organization’s packaging requirements are met efficiently and cost-effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Material Coordination & Supply Chain Management: Work closely with planners, production teams, and suppliers to ensure timely availability of materials aligned with production schedules. Address and resolve any supply chain disruptions or delays promptly.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Manage day-to-day supplier interactions and monitor supplier performance to ensure they meet quality, delivery, and cost expectations that support production operations. Support contract negotiations as needed to align with procurement and operational goals.
  • Procurement Process Management: Monitor and improve procurement workflows to ensure timely material availability while optimizing costs and reducing waste. Ensure procurement activities align with company goals and operational requirements.
  • Order Management & Delivery Tracking: Review daily MRP demand, issue purchase orders, and track delivery progress to ensure materials are received on time and in full, avoiding production delays.
  • Data Accuracy & Material Tracking: Own and maintain accurate purchasing data, ensuring all materials and supplier information is up to date and accessible across teams.
  • Inventory Management & Stock Control: Manage inventory levels to meet production demands while avoiding overstock or shortages. Strive to balance cost-effective inventory with service level requirements.
  • Support Growth Initiatives: Expedite procurement activities to support new product introductions, growth initiatives, or acquisitions, ensuring timely material availability for expanding product lines.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks or projects to support the overall success of the procurement and production functions.

What You Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of hands-on experience in packaging purchasing, preferably within the Cosmetic, Pharma, or Personal Care industries.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and familiarity with procurement systems or MRP software.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external suppliers.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and make decisions that balance cost, quality, and timing requirements.
  • Motivation & Initiative: A proactive, self-driven approach with a high degree of motivation, resourcefulness, and a positive, can-do attitude to drive operational success.
  • Customer-Focused: Customer service-oriented, with the ability to manage requests and collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers with diplomacy and care.
  • Organizational & Process Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain process discipline, and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to review data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize procurement and inventory management.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to work independently with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in managing procurement data and materials tracking.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the Pharma, Cosmetics, or CPG industries is a plus, with a proven track record of successfully managing sourcing and purchasing activities.
