Job Full Description
Position Title: CNC Machinist (Day Shift)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Compensation: $20-$26
Primary Job Function
This position operates both computer-controlled and manual machines to fabricate materials, load and cycle parts, run production lots, detect machine malfunctions, and communicate with team members and supervisors regarding production runs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lathe Operations
- Operate Haas ST-15Y and manual lathes.
- Set up and run precision lathe jobs according to specifications.
Mill Operations
- Operate Haas 3-axis and 5-axis mills, as well as manual knee mills.
- Complete setups and production runs on multiple CNC vertical mills.
General CNC Responsibilities
- Load programs, select tools, and adjust work/tool offsets.
- Utilize Haas controls and input G & M code.
- Calculate feeds and speeds for optimal machining.
- Study blueprints, manuals, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Prove out and optimize programs and fixturing for repeat parts.
- Troubleshoot and operate across multiple machines as needed.
- Detect and address malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Inspect parts for conformance to specifications (typically ±0.005 tolerance).
- Use measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all safety protocols and use required PPE.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a metal manufacturing environment.
- Extensive experience in precision lathe and mill setup and operation.
- Proficiency with manual inspection equipment and First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.
- Ability to read technical drawings and make offset changes independently.
- Strong grasp of machine shop fundamentals and metalworking skills.
- Experience using Haas controls and setting up CNC machines.
- Ability to read and understand machine codes, set up jobs, and run first parts.
- Excellent blueprint reading and math skills, including trigonometry.
- Comfortable working with close tolerances and interpreting engineered drawings.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail, dependability, and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
Preferred:
- Manual machining experience.
- Mastercam and G/M code experience.
- Trade school training and experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Regular lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity for close and distance vision, color differentiation, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and temperature variations within OSHA limits.
