MAINTENANCE LABORER
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Performs semi-skilled maintenance work in all crafts including, but not limited to:
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, installing or replacing wood or metal studs, repairing or installing wood cabinets, repairing or replacing drywall, building wood forms required for concrete work, ramps, and specialized items: repair or replacement of flooring or wooden roof components. Also, repair or replacement of doors, windows, and interior or exterior banisters and rails.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, repair or replacement of plastered walls or ceilings, patching of plastered areas, and fitting of plastered surfaces to match existing or new construction.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, repair or replacement of electrical devices such as smoke alarms, light fixtures, receptacles, switches, circuit breakers, and telephone or television cable jacks; installation of new or replacement wiring to devices; installation or replacement of electrical conduit; and installation or replacement of outside or subsurface electrical wiring, conduit, or devices.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, installation, repair, or replacement of duct work, furnace and boiler components, thermostats and other control devices, piping, fin tube, radiators, pumps, valves, fittings, furnace or boiler components.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, installation, repair or replacement of plumbing trim and fixtures such as faucets, toilets, sinks, tubs, hot water tanks, and drain devices; unclogging and repair of sanitary and storm sewers; installation, replacement, and repair of water and gas lines and miscellaneous valves and pumps; and attachment of ranges and other equipment to utility services.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, installation, repair, or replacement of sidewalks, steps, porches, and ramps; and replacement or installation of railing in concrete.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, installation, repair, or replacement of entry and passage locks, making keys for locks, and repair or replacement of handles, closers and associated hardware.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, installation, repair, or replacement of roofing including gutters, simple repair of equipment such as lawn mowers and playground equipment, and landscaping including trimming or cutting of trees and installation and maintenance of grass.
- Participates in regular and preventive maintenance. Conducts emergency maintenance at selected sites when considered qualified by Housing Authority Management. Regular maintenance includes, but is not limited to, responding to routine work orders to repair items which do not require skilled performance, cleaning stoves and refrigerators, washing and painting surfaces, removing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking areas, and performing work required of other maintenance divisions including janitorial services. Examples of preventive maintenance work includes, but is not limited to, replacement of furnace filters, oiling of equipment, flushing of drains, cleaning of gutters and protecting water lines from freezing, pest control including, but not limited to, spraying for cockroaches when accompanied and supervised by a licensed Housing Authority applicator, and performing other approved actions as necessary to control pests.
- Drives vehicles to transport equipment, material, or discarded items as needed.
- Performs other related work as directed by the Maintenance Mechanic or Maintenance Superintendent.
- Delivers letters and notices for site manager.
- Accompanies manager on all inspections during the mechanics and aides absence.
- Assists in the coordination of Capital Fund Projects by delivering Housing Authority notices and attending job conferences as needed during the mechanics or aides absence.
- Attends monthly safety committee meetings during the mechanics or aides absence.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARD:
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent, and one year experience in general construction or building maintenance.
Required certifications and Licenses: Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of, and ability to employ, standard practices of building trades used to perform duties including materials, tools, and procedures; ability to use, operate and care for power and hand tools related to the building and mechanical trades, ability to communicate well in both oral and written form; ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to report to any site at any time for work; and ability to lift 50 pounds without risk of injury.
Pay is $20.94/hr
