Job Full Description

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our team in a fast-paced steel cutting facility. The Forklift Operator will be responsible for transporting steel materials such as plates, beams, and coils to and from cutting machines, storage racks, loading docks, and other designated areas.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate forklifts (standard and heavy-duty) to move raw and cut steel materials within the facility.

  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, and storage containers.

  • Supply steel to cutting machines based on job specifications and schedules.

  • Ensure proper stacking and storage of materials to avoid damage and ensure safety.

  • Perform routine inspections of forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with safety and operational standards.

  • Assist with basic inventory tracking and documentation of materials moved or stored.

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.

  • Communicate with production, shipping, and warehouse teams to coordinate movement of materials.

  • Report any mechanical issues or safety hazards immediately to supervisors.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Valid forklift operator certification (counterbalance and/or heavy-duty forklift experience preferred).

  • Minimum 1-2 years of forklift operation experience, preferably in a steel or heavy manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to read and understand work orders, load tickets, and safety instructions.

  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery, cranes, and sharp or heavy materials.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor as needed.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a production-driven environment.


Work Environment:

  • Industrial setting with exposure to loud noises, steel dust, and moving machinery.

  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, or variable temperatures depending on season and facility setup.

  • Use of PPE (personal protective equipment) is required at all times.


Schedule & Compensation:

  • 1st shift

  • $18.00

  • Overtime and weekend availability may be required.
