Job Full Description

The Quality and Safety Assistant supports the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance and workplace safety programs in a steel fabrication environment. This role ensures that fabricated products meet quality standards and that shop operations comply with all safety regulations and company policies.


Key Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance:

  • Assist in inspecting raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, and industry standards.

  • Document and report non-conformances and help implement corrective actions.

  • Maintain quality control records, inspection logs, and calibration reports.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality and production efficiency.

Safety:

  • Conduct routine safety audits and hazard assessments across the facility.

  • Assist in enforcing compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety procedures.

  • Help facilitate safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee education.

  • Maintain safety documentation including incident reports, safety meeting minutes, and equipment inspection logs.

Administrative Support:

  • Keep accurate documentation for both quality and safety records.

  • Help prepare reports and presentations for management review.

  • Order and maintain inventory of safety supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE).


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or certification in safety, quality, or related field preferred.

  • 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing or steel fabrication environment is a plus.

  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, quality standards (e.g., ISO), and fabrication drawings.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, report generation).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with production staff, supervisors, and external inspectors.


Work Environment:

  • This position is performed in both office and shop floor environments.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and perform inspections in noisy, dusty, and physically demanding environments.

  • Use of PPE required, including safety glasses, hard hats, and steel-toe boots.
