Job Full Description
The Quality and Safety Assistant supports the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance and workplace safety programs in a steel fabrication environment. This role ensures that fabricated products meet quality standards and that shop operations comply with all safety regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance:

Assist in inspecting raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, and industry standards.

Document and report non-conformances and help implement corrective actions.

Maintain quality control records, inspection logs, and calibration reports.

Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality and production efficiency.
Safety:

Conduct routine safety audits and hazard assessments across the facility.

Assist in enforcing compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety procedures.

Help facilitate safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee education.

Maintain safety documentation including incident reports, safety meeting minutes, and equipment inspection logs.
Administrative Support:

Keep accurate documentation for both quality and safety records.

Help prepare reports and presentations for management review.

Order and maintain inventory of safety supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or certification in safety, quality, or related field preferred.

1+ year of experience in a manufacturing or steel fabrication environment is a plus.

Familiarity with OSHA regulations, quality standards (e.g., ISO), and fabrication drawings.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, report generation).

Ability to communicate effectively with production staff, supervisors, and external inspectors.
Work Environment:

This position is performed in both office and shop floor environments.

Must be able to stand, walk, and perform inspections in noisy, dusty, and physically demanding environments.

Use of PPE required, including safety glasses, hard hats, and steel-toe boots.
