Job Full Description
The HVAC Technician II is responsible for performing intermediate-level service, installation, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The technician will troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems and equipment in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to safety standards and regulatory codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, boilers, and refrigeration units.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems to identify malfunctions or issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Adjust system settings or replace parts as necessary, including thermostats, filters, belts, motors, and compressors.
- Assist in HVAC system installation, including laying ductwork, installing piping, and connecting electrical components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work specifications to ensure accurate system setup.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and national HVAC codes and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with other team members, vendors, and contractors as needed.
- Respond to emergency repair calls and work overtime when necessary to complete projects.
- Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with clients regarding system issues and recommended repairs.
- Train and mentor junior technicians (Technician I) as needed.
- Ensure the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; HVAC certification or associate degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of HVAC experience required.
- Valid HVAC license and EPA certification for handling refrigerants.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex HVAC issues.
- Experience with reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in using tools, diagnostic equipment, and software related to HVAC systems.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces, lift heavy objects, and work in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, in residential, commercial, or industrial environments.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust is common.
- May involve lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces.
- Occasional overtime and on-call availability required.
