Job Full Description
SUMMARY
The Assistant Manager of Operations supports the Director of Operations/Executive Director with daily operational oversight. This role provides leadership to drivers and support staff, assists with scheduling, training, and compliance, and serves as a key point of contact for operational issues. Responsibilities also include administering training programs and coordinating the development and maintenance of safety programs, policies, and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with supervising daily operations to ensure safe, reliable, clean, and high-quality service.
- Supervise and support bus operators and operational staff, including coaching, performance evaluations, and accountability.
- Conduct random audits to measure protocol compliance and customer service standards.
- Assist in designing, implementing, and revising fixed and demand-response routes.
- Provide operational coverage in the absence of the Director of Operations.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of mileage, ridership, and pre-/post-trip data.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FTA, ADA, and all company safety standards.
- Represent the organization at hearings, investigations, meetings, and job fairs.
- Respond to accidents, incidents, and service disruptions; coordinate with emergency services and leadership.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment for safety and accident-prevention compliance.
- Conduct safety meetings, ride-alongs, and field observations to reinforce safety culture.
- Drive routes when needed to maintain service continuity.
- Attend training sessions to maintain or upgrade certifications and skills.
- Support planning and execution of special events, detours, and service changes.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Two years of related work experience.
- Equivalent experience may be considered in place of formal education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from coworkers, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to perform calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages accurately and efficiently.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to use sound judgment to solve problems and make independent decisions.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to operate modern office equipment (computer, calculator, fax, copier).
