Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and hard-working General Laborer to join our team at a Local Landfill. The General Laborer will be responsible for performing various manual tasks related to landfill operations, ensuring the site is maintained in a safe, clean, and organized manner. This position requires physical labor, attention to safety, and adherence to environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Waste Management: Assist in the proper disposal of waste and recyclable materials at the landfill.
- Site Maintenance: Perform general site clean-up tasks, including litter picking, debris removal, and maintaining equipment areas.
- Sorting Materials: Sort and separate recyclable materials from non-recyclable waste, ensuring compliance with environmental policies.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your co-workers.
- Inspect Waste Areas: Monitor waste disposal areas to ensure proper stacking and waste management, preventing leaks and contamination.
- Report Issues: Notify supervisors of any maintenance issues or safety hazards encountered on the site.
- Customer Service: Interact with site visitors (e.g., trucks delivering waste) to assist with the proper disposal process, ensuring that they follow landfill rules and regulations.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors, including assisting with equipment maintenance, snow removal, or emergency tasks.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm (Occasional Saturdays)
Required Qualifications:
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in general labor, construction, or waste management is a plus.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and work in varying weather conditions.
- Safety Awareness: Familiarity with safety standards and procedures, with the ability to follow instructions carefully to prevent accidents.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively with others in a team-oriented environment.
- Communication Skills: Basic communication skills for reporting issues or interacting with supervisors and co-workers.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license may be required for certain tasks, such as operating equipment.
Working Conditions:
- The position is outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, or rain.
- Must be able to work in dusty, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments.
- Protective gear (e.g., gloves, safety boots, reflective vest, helmet) will be provided and must be worn.
