Optometry Assistant

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour

Job Overview

We are looking for a reliable and patient-focused Optometry Assistant to join our healthcare team in Union City, TN. This role supports the optometrist by assisting with patient care, performing preliminary eye testing, and helping manage daily clinic operations.

The ideal candidate is friendly, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced medical environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check in patients while providing excellent customer service
• Perform preliminary eye exams (visual acuity, basic screenings, eye pressure tests)
• Obtain and document patient medical histories
• Assist the optometrist during examinations and procedures
• Educate patients on contact lens use and proper eye care
• Schedule appointments and verify insurance information
• Assist patients with eyewear and frame selection
• Maintain and sanitize exam rooms and equipment
• Process payments, insurance claims, and front-office duties
• Help manage inventory for lenses, frames, and supplies

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Medical, optometry, or clinic experience preferred (willing to train the right candidate)
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to multitask and stay organized
• Basic computer skills (experience with EHR systems is a plus)
• Professional attitude and attention to detail

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of optical equipment or eye care procedures
• Experience with insurance verification and billing
• Ability to clearly explain care instructions to patients
