Job Summary

A Chemical Applicator job involves the safe and effective application of chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to manage vegetation, control pests, and enhance plant growth. This role requires expertise in operating application equipment, understanding chemical properties, and adhering to safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and certified to handle restricted-use chemicals in agricultural, landscaping, or pest control settings.

Responsibilities

  • Mix pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or fertilizers according to formulas and safety guidelines.

  • Operate sprayers, pumps, and other application equipment to apply chemicals to trees, shrubs, lawns, crops, or other designated areas.

  • Fill sprayer tanks with water and chemicals, ensuring accurate measurements and proper mixing.

  • Identify plant diseases, pests, or vegetation issues to determine the appropriate treatment.

  • Lift, push, and maneuver hoses, nozzles, and tubes to direct sprays over targeted areas, considering factors like weather conditions, terrain, and droplet sizes.

  • Clean and maintain equipment, such as sprayers and pumps, to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

  • Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, including types used, quantities, and areas treated.

  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations, including EPA standards, for pesticide handling and application.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols to minimize exposure risks.

  • Report any equipment malfunctions, chemical spills, or environmental concerns promptly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certification preferred.

  • Valid pesticide applicator license or certification (e.g., state or federal certification for handling restricted-use pesticides).

  • Previous experience in chemical application, agriculture, landscaping, or pest control preferred.

  • Knowledge of chemical properties, mixing ratios, and application techniques.

  • Physical stamina to perform outdoor work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods.

  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment, such as trucks and electric pallet jacks if required in certain environments.
