Purchasing Supervisor
Location: Plano, TX, United States

Position Overview:
A growing automation company is seeking a Purchasing Supervisor to manage procurement operations focused on high-precision components, control systems, sensors, and electromechanical assemblies. This role ensures timely, cost-effective sourcing to support the production of complex automation systems. The ideal candidate will lead a team of procurement professionals and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to maintain a responsive and efficient supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise purchasing activities related to automation components including PLCs, sensors, motors, wiring, mechanical frames, and software licenses

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies in alignment with project timelines and budgets

  • Evaluate suppliers for capability, technical compliance, lead time, and reliability

  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with vendors of specialized components

  • Partner with engineering to identify alternative parts or vendors during design changes or shortages

  • Manage inventory levels of long lead-time and custom components to prevent production delays

  • Lead new supplier qualification processes including audits and capability assessments

  • Track and report key procurement metrics such as cost savings, supplier performance, and on-time delivery

  • Maintain accurate procurement data within ERP/MRP systems

  • Resolve supply issues including delays, discrepancies, or quality concerns

  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes and supply chain performance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field

  • 3–5 years of experience in procurement within an automation, electronics, or related manufacturing environment

  • 1–2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in purchasing or supply chain

  • Strong understanding of automation components and related supplier landscape

  • Skilled in negotiation, supplier management, and data analysis

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)

  • Familiarity with technical drawings, BOMs, and engineering specifications

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across departments

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) – APICS

  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) – ISM

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based within a manufacturing and warehouse facility

  • Occasional movement throughout the production floor as required
