Laborer - High-Pressure Cylinder Paint Removal and Repainting
Job Summary:
The Laborer is responsible for the preparation and repainting of high-pressure cylinders. This includes grinding off old paint, ensuring surface cleanliness, and applying new paint according to color specifications and safety standards. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently with tools and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Paint Removal:
- Grind off old paint from high-pressure cylinders using appropriate grinding tools.
- Ensure complete removal of paint and rust, preparing the surface for repainting.
- Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries during the grinding process.
2. Surface Preparation:
- Inspect cylinders for damage or defects before repainting.
- Clean surfaces thoroughly to ensure paint adhesion.
- Mask off areas not to be painted to protect them from overspray or damage.
3. Repainting:
- Apply primer coats to prepared surfaces.
- Repaint cylinders according to specified color codes and standards using spray paint equipment or brushes.
- Ensure even and smooth application of paint, avoiding drips and imperfections.
4. Quality Control:
- Inspect repainted cylinders for uniformity and adherence to color specifications.
- Perform touch-ups and corrections as necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of repainted cylinders, including color codes and dates of repainting.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain grinding and painting equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
- Keep the work area clean and organized, ensuring safe working conditions.
6. Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), gloves, masks, and safety glasses and MUST HAVE STEEL TOE BOOTS.
- Handle high-pressure cylinders with care to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Participate in safety training and drills as required.
7. Additional Duties:
- Assist with inventory management of paint and supplies.
- Support other maintenance and preparation tasks as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using grinding tools, spray paint equipment, and other relevant tools.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure thorough paint removal and even paint application.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and proper handling of high-pressure cylinders.
- Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and ability to perform precise work.
- Time Management: Ability to complete tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in paint removal, surface preparation, and painting is preferred.
- Familiarity with handling high-pressure cylinders is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a shop or outdoor environment with exposure to paint fumes, dust, and noise.
- Physical labor, including lifting and moving high-pressure cylinders.
- Use of PPE to mitigate exposure to hazardous materials and ensure safety.
- Shift work, including potential evenings and weekends, may be required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds or more).
- Stamina to stand, bend, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to operate grinding and painting equipment safely and effectively.
