Job Title: Breaker Shop Technician

Job Summary

The Breaker Shop Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, modifications, retrofits, rebuilds, and testing on low and medium voltage circuit breakers and contactors. This role supports daily Breaker Shop operations by ensuring all equipment is restored to optimal, OEM-level performance standards through skilled mechanical and electrical work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Rebuild, repair, and retrofit low and medium voltage circuit breakers.

  • Disassemble circuit breakers and subassemblies to the component level; clean, recondition, and reassemble to OEM specifications.

  • Perform testing procedures including current injection, hipot, megger, and contact resistance tests to identify, locate, and correct electrical or mechanical faults.

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical symbols.

  • Record, evaluate, and interpret test data accurately.

  • Inspect components to determine necessary repairs or replacements.

  • Clean, polish, sandblast, or degrease components in preparation for plating, painting, or reassembly.

  • Install custom trip unit retrofit kits following manufacturer specifications and instructions.

  • Maintain and utilize personal tools suitable for circuit breaker rebuilds.


Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively.

    • Proficiency with basic math and computer applications.

    • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and electrical diagrams.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and a positive attitude.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move components or equipment as required.

  • Comfortable working with electrical and mechanical systems in a shop environment.
