Job Full Description

As an Bird Keeper at our Parrot Aviary, you will play a crucial role in the daily care and maintenance of our beautiful parrots. Your dedication and passion for avian well-being will contribute to the overall success of our aviary and the well-being of our feathered residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Bird Care:

    • Provide daily care for Eclectus parrots, including feeding, grooming, and ensuring they have access to fresh water at all times.
    • Monitor bird behavior, health, and conditions, and report any abnormalities.
  2. Enclosure Maintenance:

    • Clean and maintain bird enclosures to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for the birds.
    • Assist in creating an enriched and stimulating living space for the birds, including the addition of toys, perches, and nesting materials.
  3. Record Keeping:

    • Maintain detailed records of the birds' diets, health observations, and any other relevant information.
    • Assist in keeping inventory records for avian supplies and report when replenishments are needed.
  4. Feeding and Nutrition:

    • Prepare and distribute a balanced diet for the Eclectus parrots, ensuring their nutritional needs are met.
    • Collaborate with the Avian Care Specialist to develop feeding plans and dietary adjustments as necessary.
  5. Behavioral Enrichment:

    • Implement and document behavioral enrichment programs to ensure the mental and physical well-being of the birds.
    • Offer interaction and socialization opportunities for the birds.
  6. Safety and Security:

    • Adhere to safety protocols and report any safety hazards.
    • Ensure the security of enclosures to prevent escapes and maintain visitor safety.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine passion for and commitment to the welfare of Eclectus parrots and avian species.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Previous experience working with birds, preferably in an aviary or zoo setting.
  • Basic knowledge of avian behavior and husbandry practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to follow established aviary protocols and guidelines.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift and carry heavy items, as required.
