Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Kiln Tech for a brick manufacturing plant in Denton, TX. The Kiln Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and adjustment of kiln systems used in the brick-manufacturing process. This individual will ensure safe and efficient kiln firing operations, maintain product quality, monitor temperature, atmosphere and motion of kiln cars, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with maintenance and production teams to achieve production targets while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Pay: $19/HR + Overtime options
Schedule: M-F 7A-4P (Saturdays as needed)
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor and adjust kiln cars, burners and related equipment, transferring kiln cars in and out of the firing zone.
- Monitor kiln temperature profiles, atmosphere, and other critical parameters to ensure optimal firing and product quality.
- Make adjustments to burner settings, airflow, fuel/combustion settings and kiln zones as required.
- Inspect fired brick for quality standards (color, strength, absorption, etc.), identify defects, and take corrective action or escalate as needed.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance personnel to identify and report mechanical or electrical issues (burners, fans, drives, instrumentation).
- Follow startup/shutdown procedures for the kiln and associated auxiliary equipment, ensuring safe and controlled operation.
- Maintain logs/records of kiln operations, temperatures, adjustments, downtime, and quality checks.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures including lock-out/tag-out, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, confined space entry (if applicable), fire safety and hazardous materials protocols.
- Participate in preventive maintenance and housekeeping tasks around the kiln area to keep the work environment safe and organized.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED required, technical training or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in kiln operations or industrial furnace operations is preferred.
- Ability to read, interpret and respond to instrumentation, temperature charts, burner controls, and process logs.
- Basic computer literacy (data entry into logs, reading dashboards, basic troubleshooting).
- Ability to analyze information, identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, flexibility and ability to work in a team-oriented production environment.
- Must be safety conscious with the ability to wear and use required PPE, follow safety procedures and guidelines.
- Physical requirements: ability to stand for extended periods, must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work in high temperature zones
- Shift flexibility, willingness to work overtime, weekends or holidays as production demands dictate.
