Chassis Mechanic - $16.00/HOUR

A company in Santa Teresa, NM needs Chassis Mechanics. A chassis mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on vehicle undercarriages, including frames, suspensions, steering, and braking systems. They inspect, diagnose, and repair or replace faulty parts, ensuring vehicles meet safety and operational standards. This role often involves welding, fabrication, and documentation of repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspections and Diagnostics:

Conducting routine and preventative maintenance inspections, including FMCSA and DOT inspections, to identify issues with chassis components like brakes, lights, tires, and structural assemblies.
Repairs:

Performing a wide range of repairs, including brake jobs, tire changes, welding, fabrication, and addressing structural issues.
Parts Management:

Maintaining inventory of necessary parts and potentially ordering parts from suppliers.
Documentation:

Keeping accurate records of repairs, inspections, and work orders, often using a mobile application or traditional paperwork.
Safety Compliance:

Adhering to all safety rules, regulations, and company standards, including proper use of tools and equipment.
Collaboration:

Working effectively with other team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure efficient repairs.
Troubleshooting:

Identifying and resolving mechanical issues using diagnostic equipment and their understanding of chassis mechanics.

Qualifications:

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of experience in chassis mechanics, including customary repair methods, is often required.
Skills:

Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to use hand and power tools, welding and fabrication skills (especially MIG and ARC welding), and familiarity with chassis components like brakes, lights, and tires.
Education:

A high school diploma or GED is typically required.
Physical Requirements:

The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in various weather conditions, and perform tasks that involve stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching.
