Job Full Description

  • Reading and Interpreting Blueprints:
    MIG welders must be able to understand technical drawings to determine the welding requirements for a project. 
     
  • Preparing Materials:
    This includes cutting, shaping, and preparing metal pieces for welding, ensuring they are properly aligned and secured. 
     
  • Operating Welding Equipment:
    MIG welders use a welding gun to create an electric arc that melts metal and fuses it together. They need to adjust settings like amperage, voltage, and gas flow to achieve the desired weld. 
     
  • Ensuring Weld Quality:
    Welds must be inspected for strength, appearance, and adherence to specifications. This may involve visual inspection, testing, and using measuring tools. 
     
  • Maintaining a Safe Work Environment:
    MIG welding involves hazards like heat, sparks, and fumes. Welders must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), follow safety protocols, and maintain a clean and organized workspace. 
     
  • Troubleshooting Equipment:
    Welders may need to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with the welding machine or other equipment. 
     
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    MIG welders often work as part of a team and communicate with supervisors and other workers to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.
