Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory/Environmental Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations, including air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
    • Ensure company-wide adherence to health and safety regulations.
    • Keep up-to-date with new laws and regulations related to environmental expectations and workplace safety.
    • Maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies and ensure that the company stays current with environmental laws, codes, and policy changes.
    • Conduct periodic environmental audits and inspections to assess facility practices, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
    • Oversee the management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, ensuring proper disposal, recycling, and compliance with disposal regulations.
    • Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects, product developments, and process changes.
  • Environmental/Safety Policies, Procedures, Monitoring, and Reporting
    • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental and safety policies and procedures to ensure the manufacturing facility operates incident-free and sustainably and is environmentally responsible.
    • Oversee environmental monitoring activities, including air, water, and waste management systems, and prepare regular reports to management and regulatory bodies.
    • Drive initiatives to reduce energy consumption, water usage, and waste production while enhancing the company's sustainability goals.
  • Training and Education:
    •  Train employees on environmental and safety policies and best practices, ensuring all staff members know their environmental and safety responsibilities.
    • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.
    • Conduct safety orientations for new hires and refresher training for existing employees.
    • Promote a safety-first culture by organizing awareness campaigns and incentive programs.
  • Risk Management & Incident Prevention:
    •  Identify and mitigate potential environmental risks related to the manufacturing processes, supply chain, and facility operations.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
    • Lead accident investigations, determine root causes, and implement preventive measures.
    • Maintain records of incidents, near-misses, and safety violations, providing reports to management.
  • Reporting and Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead continuous improvement efforts related to environmental performance, utilizing data-driven decision-making to enhance operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
    • Track safety metrics and analyze trends to improve workplace safety.
    • Provide regular reports on safety performance and recommend improvements.
    • Collaborate with department heads to implement best practices for workplace safety.
    • Lead Company Safety Committee
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response:
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
    • Conduct safety drills and ensure employees are well-versed in emergency protocols.
    • Ensure proper availability and maintenance of first aid kits, PPE, and emergency equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in environmental/safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or renewable energy environment. Experience in solar cell manufacturing or the semiconductor industry is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: Certification in environmental//safety management (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional, ISO 14001, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) certification) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience in developing and delivering safety and environmental training programs
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of environmental laws, regulations, and standards applicable to the manufacturing industry. Knowledge of renewable energy and solar industry-specific environmental concerns is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, environmental monitoring software, and data analysis tools.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
    • Leadership skills to motivate and guide cross-functional teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk through the manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in a combination of office and plant environments.
  • Some travel may be required.
