Certified MIG Welder (Night Shift)
Express Employment Professionals is hiring a Certified MIG Welder for an intensive, high-profile commercial transit infrastructure project in downtown Salt Lake City, UT.
This is a premium field-welding position requiring immediate execution. We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious professional who takes pride in structurally sound fabrication and thrives with a hardworking crew on a tight schedule.
Schedule:
- Shift: Night Shift (Anticipated Midnight – 8:00 AM)
- Schedule: Must be flexible to work any night of the week as station schedules shift
- Project Start: Tentatively October 16
- Requirements: Comprehensive UTA Safety Training is strictly required prior to the project start date
Job Responsibilities
- Field Welding: Perform high-quality fit-up and MIG welding on 1-1/4" Schedule 40 steel pipe rails across 16 outdoor light rail platforms.
- Structural Installation: Install heavy commercial guardrails featuring welded wire mesh infill panels.
- Crew Collaboration: Coordinate closely with general laborers to align, secure, and permanently fuse structural steel components.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect all completed welds to guarantee full penetration, structural integrity, and compliance with transit safety codes.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certification: Must hold a current, valid MIG welding certification of 1G or higher.
- Experience: Proven commercial field-welding or structural steel fabrication experience.
- Equipment: Must supply your own welding hood and protective leathers.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to handle physically demanding labor, lift heavy pipe sections, and stand or bend for full 8-hour shifts in changing outdoor weather conditions.
Worksite Logistics & PPE
- Location: The project covers 7 downtown UTA TRAX stations (including City Center, Courthouse, Gallivan Plaza, Temple Square, Planetarium, Old Greektown, and Salt Lake Central).
- Transit: Crew members meet at a single, centralized downtown meeting point each night and are shuttled directly to that night's active platform.
- Required PPE: Candidates must bring their own Steel-Toed Work Boots, Work Gloves, and Safety Glasses. (High-visibility safety vests will be provided if you do not own a rated vest).
