Material Handler
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Material Handler to join our team. The Material Handler is responsible for safely moving, loading, unloading, and organizing steel products and materials throughout the facility and delivery operations. This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining high safety, productivity, and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times and immediately report unsafe conditions to a supervisor.

Safely move steel products and materials to and from storage areas, production areas, loading docks, and delivery vehicles using manual handling techniques, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment.

Attach slings, hooks, and lifting devices to materials and guide loads safely during movement and transport.
-
Climb onto vehicles as needed to secure and release loads.

Apply proper bundling techniques and configure loads according to planned delivery routes, including multiple-stop deliveries.

Maximize trailer load capacity while maintaining all safety requirements.

Maintain and safely operate assigned tools and equipment, including:

Tape measures
-
Calipers and micrometers
-
Hammers
-
Pallet trucks
-
Banding machines
-
Beam hooks
-
Plate lifting clamps
-
Forklifts
-
Overhead cranes
-
Inspect equipment for safety concerns and promptly report maintenance or repair needs.

Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and ongoing operations to ensure a safe work environment.

Judge distances accurately and operate safely around moving equipment and materials.
-
Attend required company meetings and training sessions.
-
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
-
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds for distances up to 25 feet and to heights of up to 5 feet.
-
Frequently exert 25–50 pounds of force and constantly exert 10–20 pounds of force to move materials.
-
Reach, squat, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated equipment while wearing required PPE.
-
Walk up to 5 miles per day as part of normal job duties.
-
Maintain close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
-
Regularly use hands and fingers to handle materials and equipment.
Working Conditions
-
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and other environmental conditions common to the local area.

Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, chemicals, and industrial equipment.
-
Moderate to occasionally high noise levels.
-
Maintain spatial awareness and safe movement throughout active warehouse and operational environments.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Ability to read and interpret work orders and follow verbal instructions.
-
Ability to meet or exceed established productivity standards safely.
-
Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Basic understanding of inventory control and material handling procedures.
-
Ability to communicate effectively across departments regarding routing, safety, and customer service matters.

Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
-
Customer service skills may be required depending on assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous material handling, warehouse, manufacturing, or steel industry experience.
-
Forklift and overhead crane operating experience.
-
Familiarity with inventory management systems and shipping procedures.
