Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Department: Finance/Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager / Controller
Location: Blacksburg, VA


Job Summary

The Accounting Clerk supports the day-to-day financial operations of the company by performing clerical and administrative tasks in the accounting department. This role ensures accurate recording of financial transactions, assists with cost tracking related to manufacturing operations, and helps maintain compliance with company policies and accounting standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including invoice entry, coding, and payment processing.

  • Match purchase orders, receiving reports, and vendor invoices to ensure accuracy.

  • Assist in maintaining inventory and cost accounting records related to manufacturing activities.

  • Record journal entries and maintain general ledger postings.

  • Reconcile bank statements, vendor statements, and company credit card accounts.

  • Assist in preparing weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports.

  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

  • Maintain organized accounting files and documentation in compliance with company policies.

  • Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as requested.

  • Communicate with vendors, customers, and internal departments to resolve discrepancies.

  • Perform other administrative and accounting duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

  • 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Basic knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, NetSuite, or similar).

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with colleagues, vendors, and auditors.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cost accounting or inventory accounting.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems used in manufacturing.

  • Understanding of manufacturing workflows and how they impact financial records.
