Position Summary

The Lead Carpenter is responsible for overseeing and performing skilled carpentry work on residential construction projects. This role includes managing day-to-day field operations, supervising carpenters and laborers, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring that all work meets quality standards, budget requirements, and project timelines.


Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead and direct carpentry crews on new home builds, remodels, and renovations.
  • Interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine layout, materials, and work sequences.
  • Assign tasks, provide on-site training, and ensure safety and productivity among team members.
  • Work closely with project managers, architects, and clients to achieve design intent and construction goals.

Carpentry Work

  • Perform advanced carpentry tasks, including framing, trim work, cabinetry installation, and custom woodwork.
  • Measure, cut, and assemble materials with precision and attention to detail.
  • Ensure all work complies with building codes and safety regulations.

Project Coordination

  • Order materials and track inventory to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and change orders with management.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and other trades to keep the project on schedule.

Quality & Safety

  • Enforce safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized worksite.
  • Conduct quality checks throughout all phases of construction.
  • Mentor junior carpenters and ensure craftsmanship meets company standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of residential carpentry experience, including framing and finish work.
  • Proven experience as a Lead Carpenter, Foreman, or Crew Leader.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • Experience with high-end custom homes or remodels.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and permitting processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
  • Comfortable standing, bending, kneeling, or climbing for extended periods.
