Welder Job Description
Position Title: Welder
Location: Roanoke, VA
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Welder to join a superior fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have experience reading blueprints, operating welding equipment, and producing high-quality metal fabrication work in a fast-paced shop environment. This role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work safely and efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding on structural steel and metal components
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders
- Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures and equipment
- Measure, cut, grind, and fit materials according to specifications
- Inspect welds for accuracy, strength, and quality standards
- Operate welding tools, torches, grinders, saws, and other fabrication equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures
- Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials as needed
- Meet production deadlines while maintaining quality workmanship
Qualifications
- Previous welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and measuring tools
- Knowledge of welding techniques and safety practices
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Welding certifications are a plus, but not required
Preferred Skills
- Experience with structural steel fabrication
- Forklift or overhead crane experience
- Ability to work overtime when needed
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Work Environment
- Industrial fabrication shop setting
- Exposure to heat, noise, sparks, and heavy equipment
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
