At first, it may not appear that your job has much in common with video games. After all, you're not a superhero plumber or a Pokémon Master. But consider this, you're level one at the beginning, you gain experience over time, and eventually you'll be able to explore new areas and seize better chances. Sound familiar? It turns out that many classic video games have useful career advice and can teach you a lot about being successful in the real world.

1. Super Mario Bros 

In the original Mario series, the players collect coins as they go from level to level until reaching the princess' castle. However, save for the princess' keeper who tells you that the princess is actually in another castle, most of these castles are abandoned. You won't be able to find her until the game is completed.  

You might not be the hero in your current role, but that doesn't mean you're not valuable! Not every position is going to be a dream gig and if you don't enjoy your current role, it could mean that it might be time for you to move on to another "castle" in order to find a fulfilling career.   

2. The Legend of Zelda 

In most of the Zelda games, the key to success is in Link's ability to use a variety of weapons and items, including the Master Sword, bows and arrows, and hooks. He also has a shield, which he can use to deflect enemy attacks. 

In your career, it's important to have a "bag of tricks" at your disposal as well. Whether it's being able to Excel at spreadsheets or knowing how to code, try and learn as many new skills as possible. That way, you'll be prepared for anything that comes your way. 

3. Pokémon 

In order to become a Pokémon Master, you have to catch them all. And in order to do that, you need to have a variety of Pokémon on your team with different elemental strengths and weaknesses. 

Similarly, in order to be successful in your career, it's important to surround yourself with a diverse group of people. Each person brings their own set of skills and experiences to the table, which can help you achieve your goals. 

4. Tetris 

In Tetris, the goal is to clear as many lines as possible by fitting together different shaped blocks. As the game progresses, the speed at which the blocks fall increases, making it more and more difficult to clear lines. 

The same can be said of your career. As you gain experience and move up the ladder, the challenges you face will become more difficult. But if you stay focused and stay positive, you'll be able to overcome them.
