Job Seeker Report – Fall 2025 Canada Edition

The Job Seeker Report is based on the results of an online survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of Express Employment Professionals. This biannual report tracks the latest job market trends across a wide range of industries. Check out some of the key insights and download the full Fall 2025 report below!

Key barriers to finding their next job include:

  • Being overqualified (32%)
  • Companies claiming to be hiring, but are only collecting applicants/resumes to review (29%)
  • Companies waiting to hire until they see the outcomes of changes in government policies (25%)

64% of job seekers said they have applied for roles for which they were overqualified, citing reasons such as:

  • The need for income (58%)
  • Better work-life balance (53%)
  • A passion for the industry (35%)

The most common offerings job seekers say would make them feel confident about their long-term job security at a company are:

  • Training for employees taking on additional roles and responsibilities (47%)
  • Clearer communications from senior leadership (36%)
  • Access to cross-training or upskillingstrong> programs (33%)
