What is the coronavirus?

According to the world health community, the coronavirus is a contagious respiratory illness and could prove fatal to susceptible populations. Those over the age of 40 or with weakened immune systems are most vulnerable to serious illness from the virus.

Symptoms of the coronavirus are fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, and it is transmitted through coughing and sneezing. 

Best practices to prevent exposure.

During this time of year when illnesses such as flu or colds are common, taking precautions to stay healthy is important. Since there is no current vaccine, some of the best ways to prevent exposure to the coronavirus include:

• Wash your hands often with soap and warm or hot water for at least 20 seconds; use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not an option
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick and reduce interactions such as handshakes with others
• Stay home when you are sick
• Cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with products proven to kill other strains of coronaviruses
