Job Full Description

HVAC technicians, or heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration entry-level mechanics and installers, install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems. Their responsibilities include:

Installation: Install HVAC systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, including ductwork, air handlers, compressors, and thermostats
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks and warranty work to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently
Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, and perform repairs
Testing: Inspect and test HVAC systems and components
Documentation: Keep records of work performed, including equipment use, hours worked, and materials used
Compliance: Ensure compliance with appliance standards and with OSHA

HVAC technicians may also:

Install electrical components and wiring
Recharge refrigerant levels
Check for leaks
Perform energy-efficiency upgrades
Respond to emergency service calls
Attend training and classes to maintain skills and meet credential/certification requirements
