Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining heavy machinery and trucks used in construction and rental operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with a variety of heavy equipment brands and systems, including diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air brakes.
This is a full-time position offering hourly pay and benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and service heavy equipment and heavy trucks
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on machinery
- Prepare equipment for rental readiness and operational use
- Load and unload trucks and equipment safely
- Perform welding and torching work as needed
- Identify, order, and replace necessary parts and components
- Read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and service manuals
- Maintain accurate repair records and communicate equipment issues
- Ensure shop cleanliness, organization, and safety standards are maintained
- Operate heavy equipment safely and responsibly
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, HVAC systems, air brake systems, and electrical systems
- Welding and torching experience
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical diagrams
- Familiarity with OEM parts replacement and repair procedures
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment effectively
Experience Requirements
- Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar role
- Experience working with equipment such as:
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Backhoes
- Telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Skid steers
- Motor graders
- Experience with major equipment brands including Caterpillar, John Deere, Case, Komatsu, Kubota, JCB, Volvo, Dynapac, and New Holland preferred
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Technical or vocational training in diesel or heavy equipment mechanics preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy tools, parts, and equipment components
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods
- Comfortable working in both indoor shop and outdoor conditions
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver heavy equipment
