Our client is seeking a Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of complex energy technology projects. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team focused on driving innovative energy savings and sustainability outcomes across commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors.
This is a hybrid role based in Frederick, MD. The ideal candidate will be comfortable traveling to local project sites and reporting to the office occasionally.
Position Overview:
The Project Engineer will play a hands-on role in overseeing the installation and implementation of advanced energy systems—including power, lighting, HVAC retrofits, building automation, renewables, and envelope upgrades. Working closely with other project managers, subcontractors, and clients, this individual will ensure that all phases of construction and commissioning are executed to specification, on time, and within scope.
Key Responsibilities:
Support project implementation from pre-construction through commissioning and closeout.
Conduct energy audits at client locations
Review submittals, engineering designs, specifications, and schedules to ensure project accuracy and compliance.
Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to validate design feasibility and cost estimates.
Conduct site visits and oversee installation activities to verify alignment with technical plans and safety standards.
Provide technical documentation, reports, and guidance throughout project lifecycle.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and clients to ensure project objectives are met.
Support third-party commissioning activities as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (BSME/BSEE or related).
5+ years of experience in project engineering or implementation, ideally within the energy, renewables, or building systems space.
Strong understanding of energy products (HVAC, solar, batteries, etc.)
Strong understanding of systems such as HVAC, chiller and boiler plants, motors, controls, and distributed energy.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and oversee field installations.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as required.
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, OSHA, ASHRAE, DoD UFC/UFGS) is a plus.
Experience with ESCO or Design-Build projects is highly preferred.
