Job Description:
The Press Operator is responsible for the daily operation of the printing press, to assure personal safety while consistently meeting Company demands and specifications, specifically pertaining to quality, cost, and general production efficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure daily activities are conducted at all times in a safe and proper manner.
  • Working overtime as workload, personnel schedules or Customer demands suggest.
  • Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Organize and maintain supply inventories at the press.
  • Ensure raw materials are allocated to the job as required.  Ensure excess raw materials are returned to inventory as required.
  • Set up equipment, or review previous shifts set up, based on job specifications, to meet appropriate requirements of the job specification.
  • Ability to operate the equipment in a safe and effective manner, including auxiliary equipment installed in-line on the press.
  • Have a working knowledge of the capabilities of the entire press and all related auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform quality checks prior to production and monitor print quality during production.  Isolate and identify, as required, product that does not meet Company and Customer standards.
  • Provide quality Customer samples as required.
  • Ability to use, understand and interpret the results of the Xrite color management software, the barcode scanning software, and inspection systems.
  • Work in conjunction with assistants to ensure timely staging of work as well as efficient handling of materials and supplies.
  • Understand all related aspects of the job jacket and management information system to ensure paperwork, records, documents, etc. are accurate and all required information is entered timely and accurately into the management information system and/or on approved forms.
  • Direction and training of the Press Assistant, in line with Company policies and procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with Scheduling Coordinator to accurately track, enter and verify daily jobs completed quantities.
  • Work in conjunction with Scheduling Coordinator to schedule jobs to meet Customer demands while maintaining efficiencies of production.
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communications with employees and managers.
  • Proactively suggest new and better methods to improve departments’ daily activities.
  • Communicate daily with the Supervisor on matters of importance which could negatively impact quality, cost, safety, or employee morale.
  • Communicate daily with the Scheduling Coordinator to ensure we are meeting delivery expectations of the Customer.
  • Effectively and appropriately communicate daily with auxiliary departments regarding matters which could impact your ability to effectively produce quality product.
  • Ability to effectively use and understand all material handling equipment.
  • Assist in development of written procedures and efficiency improvement/waste reduction programs.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance, including repairs and adjustments, as required, on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Strive to meet Company targets as related to production efficiencies, quality, and waste.
  • Consistently perform all pre-determined required daily duties as outlined by the Company, the Supervisor and the Plant Manager.
