Job Overview


The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for preparing accurate and timely

estimates for security and lock projects, ensuring all aspects of the project are

accounted for, from materials and labor costs to project timelines and

coordination. This role involves product research, vendor coordination, and close

collaboration with technicians to ensure the correct hardware is quoted and all

customer expectations are met. The Estimator/Project Manager will be an

integral part of the project lifecycle, helping to ensure smooth transitions from

estimating to project execution.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. Estimate Preparation & Drafting:

  • Review and fully understand the Scope of Work (SOW) for each project before drafting estimates.
  • Conduct thorough product research to determine materials and their associated costs.
  • Accurately calculate labor costs and compile product descriptions, labor estimates, and materials for each project.
  • Collaborate with vendors and technicians to ensure hardware and materials are quoted correctly.
  • Maintain detailed notes on hardware costs and other critical estimate information for internal tracking.

2. Customer Communication & Service:

  • Respond promptly to customer phone calls and emails regarding estimates, project revisions, and inquiries.
  • Reach out to customers to confirm they have received estimates and answer any follow-up questions.
  • Follow up on estimates to assist with sales conversions and ensure customer satisfaction.

3. Order and Inventory Management

  • Place orders for necessary parts and materials once an estimate is approved.
  • Ensure quality control of materials received and verify all specifications are met.
  • Notify dispatch when a job is ready for scheduling to ensure timely project initiation.

4. Team Coordination:

  • Work closely with the project management team and technicians to ensure accurate estimates and appropriate hardware are sourced.
  • Collaborate with vendors and other external partners to ensure project requirements are met.

5. Time Management & Deadline Adherence:

  • Manage multiple estimates and project timelines simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Work efficiently under pressure to meet client needs while maintaining high-quality standards.

6. Administrative Tasks:

  • Document and track all communication and updates related to estimates, customer interactions, orders, and project statuses.
  • Keep accurate records of estimates, quotes, and orders for internal reference.

7. Additional Duties:

  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed to support the estimating and project management teams.
  • Ensure estimates and project details are stored and organized for easy access by other team members.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certifications in estimating, project management, or related fields is a plus.

• Experience:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator, Project Manager, or in a similar role within the security, lock, or construction industry.
  • Experience with cost estimation, product research, and labor calculations is required.
  • Familiarity with hardware and materials related to security systems and locks is beneficial.

  • Ability to interpret technical documents such as SOWs and product specifications.
  • Mechanical inclination with an understanding of lock and security system components.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software tools (industry-specific software experience is a plus).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or in

meetings.

  • Occasional light lifting or movement of materials or supplies as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced office environment with occasional pressure to meet deadlines.

and in person
